Welcome to my blog! My name is Devon. I am starting this blog to share the awesome nuggets of information I have learned just from doing my own personal deep dive into God’s Word. I can’t keep it to myself any longer, and I am wearing my family out.
Let’s start at the beginning. I started a Bible reading plan in 2023, having my life changed forever by Jesus at a youth summer camp (I was a parent volunteer). This plan was to read the Bible in a year. 365 days of getting to know more about God and His story. By the way, I never read my Bible before this. Don’t worry, I didn’t have any teaching parts at the time, and if I did, we had a prepared lesson ready to go that I could go off of in case we were short-staffed. I never wanted to teach because I never read the Bible. I just physically couldn’t read it. So, it did not make sense to me to teach our youth when I myself couldn’t understand God’s Word. It was very confusing. Even getting asked simple questions was a challenge for me to answer. I wanted to change that.
I began to develop a hunger and childlike wonder for His Word and just to know Him. The hunger started when my husband and I were driving home from church. This was shortly after the summer camp, and I noticed that I no longer felt empty. I didn’t even realize I was feeling empty, just that I felt full and the emptiness was gone. From there, I found a reading plan because I had to know more. I currently use the YouVersion Bible App. The plan I use is The Bible with Nicky and Pippa Gumbel, Classic Version, 2024. He takes passages, in order, starting with the middle of the Old Testament, like Psalms and Proverbs, then goes to the New Testament then goes back to the Old each day. I would recommend going through the samples of the plans and looking at the devotionals to see what works best for you. Nicky explains what is happening with each section I read in the bible. He also does a good job of pointing out things that I totally missed from the Bible reading. It is now April 2025, and I just finished my 8th book about to finish my 9th. I know it is not that many out of 66 books in the grand scheme of things, but when I do a deep dive, I like to try to understand everything I am reading, and that is why it has taken me so long. I literally will look up definitions just to make sure I can clearly paint that picture in my mind. This has also aided me in being able to read on my own and understand what is happening.
Utilizing this plan, I have read Genesis, Job, Matthew, Exodus, Mark, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, and I am almost finished with Luke. I also completed a deep dive on Ephesians at a church nearby, but I am not counting this in my numbers just yet.
His plan breakdown typically looks like this each day:
- Psalms
- Luke
- Joshua
I will share everything I have pieced together on my own and learned from other resources, including Nicky and Pippa, and credit those resources. If you also have something to share, please contact me. I would love to hear from you.
If you feel I made an error, please gently rebuke a sister in Christ.
I found this fitting, as this was covered in the last session of my Ephesians class.
Paul writes:
“Pray also for me, that the message may be given to me when I open my mouth to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel. For this, I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I might be bold enough to speak about it as I should.”
Ephesians 6:19-20 CSB
Please pray for me! 😊
